We congratulate Adreona on her completion of a Fine Arts degree at UNF and hope you enjoy the You Tube video exhibition that she has prepared for you! \n \nArtist’s Bio \nAdreona Perkowski is a multimedia artist attending the University of North Florida earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in sculpture. Her work focuses on personal narrative pieces pulled from issues in childhood and present day\, such as addiction\, abandonment\, healing\, and hope. Perkowski’s most recent body of work highlights the complicated path of healing from past traumas through reflection and acceptance. DESCRIPTION:“The Art of Rendering Japanese Plums in Colored Pencil” \nPlease join me for my second class offering at The Vault 1930!  This course will introduce and elaborate on techniques that I have developed for producing vibrant\, representational renderings in colored pencil on toned paper. In addition to explaining measuring methods and modes for creating symmetrical circles\, I will demonstrate a formula for building a drawing on top of a smooth white base of colored pencil.  Contour and cross-contour lines will be explained and demonstrated to help make the plums themselves appear more dimensional\, and to highlight subtle plane shifts upon the leaves. The class is open to all skill levels with beginners being introduced to the medium and intermediate to advanced painters learning new skills. RSVP for the January 15th opening by calling The Vault at 1930 at 904-398-2890 or by email to info@thevaultat1930.com. \nAbout Anna Miller \nEDUCATION\, EARLY WORK AND TRANSITION. \nI have been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil. My mother recognized my talent and encouraged me to start my journey on the long road of art education. In my early teens\, I enrolled in a college level art school. Later I was accepted at National Academy of Fine Art and Architecture of Ukraine. After earning my Masters in Painting\, I began teaching art at college level. I worked as a college faculty member for twelve years and then I decided to pursue a Masters in Fine Arts at the Academy of Art University\, San Francisco\, California.\nMy earlier work was representational\, with some abstract elements. Looking back\, I can see that abstraction was always present in one form or the other in many of my paintings.\nDuring my education\, I struggled to find a happy median between my academic education and abstract art\, which intrigued me. I was attempting to merge two styles of art\, realistic and non-realistic. Then was I decided to move away from figurative art completely and devoted all my time to abstract paintings. \nINSPIRATION \nMy vision began to worsen early on in life. However\, I often would not wear my glasses and would start seeing the world differently from the position of a nearsighted person. It was a world without details but with interesting designs\, fragments of light with shadows\, and incomplete patterns. One of my favorite examples of fragmentation was the fluid design created by light in moving water. The movement of light through water was captivating and meditative: It always brought peace to my soul. My paintings expressed refractions of light. Refractions comes from the observation and perception of color and light patterns found in nature. DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday November 30th from 5-7 pm for a reception opening the show of sculpture by Nick DeGennaro. Nick is a Senior at the UNF School of Fine Arts. The Vault is proud to support Senior Art Shows for university art programs in NE Florida. This sculpture will be available for viewing through December 14th. \nArtist’s Statement\n“My academic career began in engineering. I quickly learned that I did not have the mindset to sit at a computer crunching numbers. I eventually found my way to sculpture\, I never lost the mathematical processes that led me to engineering. I find comfort in patterns and geometry – the predictability and dependability found within them. This has influenced my work. I like to create nonobjective geometric forms that are simple yet interesting. However\, there is also a part of me that is fascinated by the unpredictability of life and the universe. With this in mind I try to find the patterns that govern the world around us. All existence is pattern\, from birth to life and eventually decay. There are rules that govern it all and beg to be explored\, challenged\, and bent. I do this through sculpture.”

She studied printmaking and painting at Escuela de Artes Plastica (EAP) in San Juan\, Puerto Rico. Rashid earned her B.S in Physics from Georgia State University in Atlanta\, GA and worked as a researcher in Nano science at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). \nRashid has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in museums\, art centers\, galleries and alternative art spaces across the United States including the Pacific Grove Art Center in Pacific Grove\, CA\, Felix Kulpa Gallery in Santa Cruz\, CA\, Tempus Projects in Tampa\, FL\, Cummer Museum and Gardens in Jacksonville\, FL and Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes in Cusco\, Peru. Recent juried group shows include “Hard Edge Paintings” at the Harris House/Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach\, FL curated by Bethany Bennett Behr\,“Pressing Matters- APS” at the Abernathy Arts Center in Sandy Springs\, GA and “Suprematism\, Constructivism\, Futurism” at Phylogeny Contemporary in Seattle\, WA curated by Lori Johns. \nIn addition\, Rashid’s paintings and prints can be found in museum and private collections throughout the United States\, the United Kingdom\, and Portugal. She is a former US National Fencing Champion in all three fencing weapons; foil\, epee\, and saber. She is currently a fencing coach and competitively training on the Veterans40 national circuit. \nRashid has previously served as Studio Director and President of the Art Center Cooperative (TAC) in Jacksonville\, FL; Studio Director of the Ybor Art Colony (YAC)\, Curator of the Ybor Artists Association (YAA)\, and Co-Gallery Director of the Wandering Eye Gallery (WEG) in Ybor City-Tampa\, FL. \nRashid’s diverse experiences have contributed to the complexity and thoughtfulness of her work and work ethic. Call 904-398-2890 or email us at info@thevaultat1930.com for appointments outside of normal business hours. \nThis Vault at 1930 exhibition is being held in support of the “In the Mood – The Art of Harry McCormick” exhibition from July 3rd to September 20\, 2018 in the rotunda of the St Johns County Administration Building. This is an “Art in Public Spaces” exhibition by partnership between the St Johns County Cultural Council and the St Johns County Board of County Commissioners. Supporting sponsors include the St Johns County Tourist Development Council\, The Community Foundation of Northeast Florida\, the St Augustine Art Association\, Clear Channel Outdoor\, the Corazon Cinema and Cafe and The Vault at 1930 Art Gallery. \nAbout Harry McCormick \nBasically I have been a painter of ‘ interiors ‘ although not exclusively as there have been other venues as well. You could call me a painter of ‘ genre ‘ as well\, meaning ordinary people doing ordinary things such as recently painting a series of painting of people looking at paintings in museums and galleries. It gave me an excuse to do copies of other great paintings done be such painters as Picasso\, Monet\, Cezanne\, Sargent\, and the like. Painting bars has been an ongoing theme of mine for many years. I have traveled the world looking for interesting bars and the people in them. I did a show in Chicago of the Victorian Pubs of London\, in New York from the Plaza Hotel Oak Bar to McSorley’s Old Ale House\, which is one of my favorites and one that I have been painting on and off since 1983. I like very elegant interiors as well as funky places. I’ve painted the mansions of Newport\, Rhode Island to the Breakers and the Flagler Mansion in Palm Beach. I’ve painted the bars of South Beach\, Miami. I done bars in San Francisco\, Chicago\, Paris\, London. \nHaving practiced Aikido and Zen meditation for 45 years I have painted some pictures related to these things. But recently I had been asked by the Owl 57 Gallery to try my hand at painting Jewish subjects. It was difficult for me at first\, having been raised in an Irish Catholic background. But my mother had a Jewish heritage and Rabbi New from the Boca Raton Chabad assures me that I am Jewish. He took me under his wing and somehow thru him I got a handle on painting Judaica. DESCRIPTION:ROSALIE MARKS ATKINS ART SHOW \nThe Vault @1930 welcomes locally and nationally recognized artist who was one of the first members of the U.S. Department of State’s Artist in Embassies program – her painting went to Upper Volta in the 1950s. \nCocktail Reception Friday  June 22nd from  5:30 pm – 7:30 pm \nArt will also be available to view on Saturday 23rd from 10am-3pm  at The Vault at 1930 Art Gallery \nAbout Rosalie Marks Atkins \nRosalie Atkins studied at Mason College of Music and Fine Arts and Morris Harvey College. She spent many summers at the Provincetown Workshop and the Truro Art Center in Massachusetts where she studied with Leo Manso\, Victor Candell\, and Bud Hopkins. She also had workshops in west Virginia with Herbert Olds\, John O”Conner\, John Clarkson\, Joe Moss\, Elliot O’Hara\, and Alfred Stine. \nRosalie was one of the first members of the US Department of State’s “Artists in Embassies” Program – her paintings were displayed in Upper Volta in the 1950’s \nAwards  \nAllied Artist of West Virginia- Purchase Award (WV Arts and Humanities Council). Exhibition 280\, Huntington Galleries- Purchase Award (WV Arts and Humanities Council). Allied Artist of West Virginia Exhibits-Several Awards. DESCRIPTION:The Vault @ 1930 welcomes nationally recognized painter and Jacksonville resident Susan Astleford! \nShow Opening Cocktail Reception  \nSaturday December 9th    5:30pm – 7:30pm    Public Invited \n\nAbout Susan Astleford \nSusan lives with her husband\, Paul\, in Jacksonville\, Florida\, on the beautiful St John’s River.  She has had the benefit of living in California\, Washington DC\, suburban Chicago\, Orlando\, the Gold Coast of Chicago\, Columbus\, Ohio and Paris\, France. \nHer parents treasured her drawings she created at age three and enrolled her in oil painting classes a few years later\, stimulating a long career in art.  During college\, Astleford studied Commercial Art and Fine Art\, and graduated with a degree in Art Education from Penn State.  She worked as a commercial artist in Washington\, DC. \nHer medium of choice for thirty years had been watercolor for its translucent beauty and portability\, but her new love is oils – in particular\, water mixable oils have become her mainstay. \nTravel\, Astleford’s second favorite pastime – in Europe\, Asia\, New Zealand\, the Caribbean\, Israel\, the Middle East\, Africa and America – has been a most exciting education in cultural diversity\, architecture\, costume\, flora and fauna – and those images provide endless subjects for paintings. \nAstleford has taught watercolor to adults for five years in Orlando\, and water-soluble oils to adults for seven years in Columbus\, Ohio\, and Bonita Springs\, Florida.  She has been a member of the Palette and Chisel Academy in Chicago\, Oil Painters of America\, Ohio Plein Air Society\, American Artists Professional League\, Inc.\, Allied Artists of America\, Inc.\, American Impressionist Society\, St. Augustine Art Association and Women Painters of the Southeast. \nEducation: BS in Art Education from Penn State University \nWorkshops in oil and watercolor from Phil Austin\, Tom Hill\, Ralph Ledesma\, Phyllis Kozlowski\, Andrew Johns\, Phil Kantz\, Diane Rath\, Scott Burdick\, Phil Beck\, Gregg Kreutz\, Kim English\, Jeff Legg\, David Leffel\, Kenn Backhaus\, Marc Hanson\, Diane Fraser and Peggy Kroll-Roberts were great learning opportunities\, and Astleford is looking forward to a November workshop with T. Allen Lawson. A ten-day Masters Class in Anglin-sur-l’Anglin\, France\, with Kevin and Wanda MacPherson was definitely an educational highlight and a turning point in Astleford’s confidence in her artwork. \nRecent awards include Best of Show\, St. Augustine Art Association\, ‘Florida Forever’ Exhibition – ‘Egret with Turtles’ and Best of Show\, St. Augustine Art Association\, ‘Annual Honors Show – 2016’ – ‘House Hunters’

DESCRIPTION:The art of David Engdahl will be on display at The Vault at 1930 Art Gallery from November 10th – 30th. Art will be available to purchase through November 30th. \n ABOUT DAVID ENGDAHL \nAn architect by education and vocation\, I have been working with laminated wood sculpture since 1971\, and have exhibited my works throughout the U.S. including over twenty states. My work is included in numerous corporate collections as well as permanent collections of the Orlando Museum of Art (FL)\, the Huntsville Museum of Art (AL) and Wiregrass Museum of Art (Dothan\, AL). I received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts through the Fine Arts Council of Florida in 1978. From 1994 to 1997\, two of my works were displayed in the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain through the U.S. State Department\, and one each have been in U.S. embassies in Latvia\, Angola\, and Zimbabwe. \nAPPROACH \nConsisting of a natural material altered through a technological process (plywood)\, my work explores the relationship between organic form and technology. My forms are inspired by nature. I attempt to create integrity of material/method/form as a language of expression. \nTECHNIQUE \nStarting from sketches\, I produce full-scale contour drawings outlining each shaped piece needed to build the form. These are traced onto plywood\, cut out and laminated to produce the rough sculpture using white wood glue. The surface is then carefully ground\, sanded smooth and given a satin polyurethane finish.

The public is invited to attend and we request the courtesy of a RSVP to info@thevaultat1930.com for those planning to attend the reception. \nAbout Michael Brennan \nMichael Brennan began creating his own works of art at an early age.  His passion for modern art led him to explore the use of collage underlying various painted subjects including wildlife\, aviation\, architectural illustration\, and advertising composition\, among others. \nMichael’s process begins with plywood panel construction\, collage of vintage text and technical drawings for aesthetic value\, layered with a painted image in acrylic\, charcoal\, oil\, pastel\, and resin.  His large-scale pieces measure up to eight feet by six feet. \nMichael was awarded “Best in Show” at the Old Fourth Ward Arts Festival in Atlanta in 2016.  The same year he was a featured artist in the Louisville Festival of the Arts and received an Award of Distinction at the Gulf Breeze Art Festival.  His art has been featured in past issues of Churchill Downs Magazine. He has many commissioned pieces to his credit and exclusive interior design in several restaurants including Chop House on the Bricks in Thomasville\, Georgia. \nMichael resides in Tallahassee\, Florida.

Ed’s work is featured in this month’s Arbus Magazine in “The Man of Many Hands” by Meredith Matthews. \nAn opening reception for the show will be held at The Vault on August 4th from 5-8pm. The public is invited. Kindly request RSVP for the reception by email  to info@thevaultat1930.com \nWe look forward to seeing you on he 4th and during the August show. \n       \nABOUT ED HALL\nBorn in Jacksonville\, Florida\, Ed Hall received his B.D. in Graphic Design\, and his M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Florida.  While in college he did political cartoons and illustrations for The Florida Independent Alligator\, UF’s school newspaper.  After college\, Hall worked for several weekly publications in and around Jacksonville\, and finally settled at The Baker County Press in Macclenny (just outside of Jacksonville) where he continues to work as the weekly cartoonist. Over the last 12 years\, Hall has won 10 Florida Press Awards\, 3 Newsmaker Awards\, and numerous fine art awards in national and international competitions. In 2003\, Ed was presented the 53rd Annual Green Eyeshade Award for weekly cartoons by The Society of Professional Journalists.  He has also won the Florida Press Club Award four times (2003 & 2006\, 2008 and 2012). \nEd is the owner of Design Alternatives\, a home-based residential design service. He has also been an adjunct professor of drawing at Flagler College in St. Augustine and The University of North Florida\, Jacksonville. \nEd’s cartoons and political illustrations have been featured in USA Today\, The Washington Post\, The Los Angeles Times\, The Tallahassee Democrat\, The New York Times and CNN Headline News. His work is also widely distributed overseas.  In 2003 he was asked to join Artizans\, a Canadian based syndicate.  Through Artizans\, Ed’s cartoons appear weekly in newspapers across North America. \nHall’s art work has been displayed both regionally and nationally; most recently at the American University Museum in Washington DC\, the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania\, the Fowler Gallery in Provincetown Massachusetts\, and the Laredo Center for the Arts in Laredo Texas.  He was also awarded a one-person show at the Reddi-arts Gallery in Jacksonville Florida.  Other recent awards include best of show in Behind the Mask\, Inside the Head a Jacksonville Coalition for the Visual Arts exhibition in 1997\, and best of show for Figures of the Millennium\, a St. Augustine Art Association show held in 1999. \nHall is represented in Jacksonville by The Vault at 1930.  His work is also held in the permanent collection of the St. Augustine Art Association. \nEd resides in Jacksonville with his wife Emmy.
